The Tokaj region, located in northeastern Hungary, is one of the world’s oldest classified wine regions and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Renowned for its unique volcanic soils, cool climate, and centuries-old winemaking traditions.
The nearby Tisza and Bodrog rivers generate morning mists in the autumn, which provide the humidity needed for botrytis to begin its gentle attack on the grapes. These moist mornings are followed by warm, sunny afternoons that allow the grapes to slowly shrivel and concentrate in flavour and sugar. This delicate balance of humidity and sunshine is essential for producing high-quality botrytised grapes in Tokaj.

The Gizella estate in Tokaj includes 19 hectares in 12 vineyards and three villages - Szil-völgy, Bige, Deák, Barát, Bajusz, Dobai, and Lestár in Tarcal; Kastély, Dereszla, and Medve in Bodrogkeresztúr and Bomboly and Szent Tamás in Mád.
All are sustainably farmed.

Winemaker: Ákos Péter
Located in Hungary’s Tokaj-Hegyalja region, family owned and operated Péter farms five hectares of
vineyards, including Thurzó, Mézes-mály, Bige, Mogyorós, Mester-Völgy, Lónyai, and Kövesd.
The Mátra wine region, located in northern Hungary at the foothills of the Mátra Mountains, spans around 7,800 hectares, making it the country's second-largest wine region. Its volcanic soils (andesite, rhyolite, and loess) and cool continental climate with ample sunshine and significant diurnal variation contribute to fresh, aromatic white wines with vibrant acidity
and mineral character.

In the village of Gyöngyöstarján third-generation winemaker Péter Benedek carries on his family’s legacy in his grandfather’s original cellar and cultivate 17 Hectares. The winery aims to reflect the cool climate and
volcanic terroir of the region, producing precise, clean, and elegant wines.
Vineyards
This Pinot Noir comes from the Tűzköves Vineyard, cultivated using the Guyot single cane training system. The vineyard features brown forest soil with andesite, contributing minerality and structure to the wine. The 2023 vintage was characterized by a very warm and dry summer, following a wetter spring, resulting in ripe and concentrated fruit. Winery Philosophy Péter Benedek and his family combine four generations of tradition with modern, gentle cellar work, choosing only grape varieties that suit the Mátra and farming their 12-17 ha estate “in harmony with nature.”
